Challenge
A U.S.-based manufacturer supporting defense-related projects was handling technical data subject to export controls but lacked a formal ITAR compliance program. There were no documented policies, unclear access controls for foreign persons, and no defined procedures for handling export-controlled data. Leadership recognized the risk of potential violations and needed a structured approach to meet ITAR requirements.
Approach
Cleared Systems guided the organization through the development of a comprehensive ITAR compliance program. We supported ITAR registration, defined export-controlled data handling procedures, implemented visitor access controls, and developed policies aligned with regulatory expectations. In addition, we provided employee training to ensure staff understood their responsibilities when working with controlled technical data and interacting with foreign persons.
Outcome
The organization established a formal, defensible ITAR compliance program aligned with regulatory requirements. With clear policies, controlled data handling processes, and trained employees, the company significantly reduced its risk of violations and improved its ability to support defense-related work. Leadership gained confidence in their compliance posture and readiness for potential audits or reviews.
